Meet your representatives

Peta Troughton
Elected

If I haven't met you, Hi! My name is Peta (like the boy) and I have 2 kids at Oropi Primary- Toby in year 4 and Juno in year 2. We live in Upper Ohauiti on our family farm and live in the house my husband grew up in. Don't worry I have added a dishwasher and insulation. I grew up in Australia on Awabakal land in the Newcastle region in a place that feels very much like Tauranga. My kids say things like esky and thongs, can laugh like kookaburras and have been taught the art of eating an ice block really fast AND are very proud Kiwis. I have loved slowly learning some Te Reo since moving to NZ over a decade ago- first through Te Wananga and then through Toby and Junos interest. We have so much to learn from our First Nations cultures.

I have zero experience on boards. Zip. None. But I do have experience in speaking up, saying the hard things and advocating. I was a High School Chaplain in Australia and loved being part of that community and I valued what our team was able to accomplish for the children we educated. I believe in inclusion, giving things a red hot crack, chocolate, seeing others for the best they can be, wholistic person first approaches, honesty, kindness... and that no-one makes good decisions on an empty stomach.

Justin Charles Williams
Elected

My name is Justin Williams and I am standing for the Oropi School Board.

I have a a six year association with Oropi School to date and have seen our two daughters flourish in this awesome environment with my Son set to join in 2024 as well.

I currently have a Co-Opted roll sitting with the Board and have enjoyed the exposure this has afforded me in this short time. I think my 20years experience in Business and Technical Management roles with a strong background in Health & Safety and people management will complement and support the schools needs.

I am highly motivated to use this experience to further enhance and contribute to the best little school in the Bay of Plenty.
